On Saturday, February 25, 2025, the General Assembly and Board of Directors meeting of the Arab Contractors Union was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Federation of Construction Contractors, chaired by Mr. Ali Fakher Al-Sanafi. This meeting was convened based on the invitation sent by him to the members of the Union to discuss the agenda attached to the invitation.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Awni Al-Saket, the founding president of the Union, Engineer Hassan Abdelaziz, the honorary president of the Union, Engineer Darwish Hassanin, the first vice president of the Union, Engineer Hamdy Shahat, the Secretary-General of the Union, Ambassador Kamal Hassan Ali, the Union’s advisor, as well as Mr. Mahmoud Maska, the advisor to the Arab Economic Unity Council, representing the council, Engineer Zakaria Al-Abd Al-Qader, the president of the Contractors Union of Islamic Countries, and Mr. Hussein Ali Mousa, the commercial advisor to the Iraqi Embassy in Egypt, representing the embassy.
The meeting also included the participation of heads and delegations from contractors’ organizations from 16 Arab countries.
The main decisions of the General Assembly and Board of Directors were as follows:
- Approval of the Union’s budget for the year ending on December 31, 2024, and the revenue and expenses account for 2024.
- Approval of the estimated budget for 2025.
- Discharge of the Board of Directors from the previous term.
- Unanimous re-election of Mr. Ali Al-Sanafi as President of the Union for a third term by acclamation.
- Approval of the election of Mr. Sherif Wahba (Secretary-General of the Lebanese Contractors Union) as Vice President of the Union for the Mashreq Arab region, and Mr. Abdul Majid Kachir (President of the Libyan Construction and Building Union) as Vice President of the Union for the Maghreb Arab region.
- Acknowledgment of thanks to Engineer Darwish Hassanin for his significant efforts during his tenure as First Vice President and approval for him to continue performing his duties temporarily until a new First Vice President is appointed.
- Approval to appoint Dr. Amer Al-Domour as the legal advisor to the President of the Union, and Dr. Islam Al-Ayyasra as the media advisor to the President of the Union.
- Acknowledgment of the Union’s activity report for 2024.
- Acknowledgment of the Union’s memorandum regarding its efforts in communication and coordination with regional and international financing institutions to support Arab construction companies.
- Urging contractors’ organizations in Arab countries to provide the Union’s General Secretariat with detailed data, contact methods, and the names of the responsible individuals in each organization to be published on the Union’s website, as well as providing information about major projects being launched in their countries to be shared with all Arab construction companies interested in working on these projects.
- Formation of a committee for the reconstruction of Gaza, to be called the Gaza Reconstruction Authority, to be chaired by Mr. Ahmed Al-Qadi, President of the Palestinian Contractors Union, and include heads of Arab contractors’ organizations.
- Organizing an Arab Conference for Reconstruction in affected Arab countries, to serve as a platform for coordinating efforts and providing opportunities for Arab contractors to participate in reconstruction projects.
- Strengthening cooperation with donor organizations and Arab development banks to ensure the provision of necessary financial resources for reconstruction efforts, thereby contributing to the restoration of stability in these countries.
- Acknowledgment of Mr. Ali Al-Sanafi’s significant and dedicated efforts to maintain the Union’s progress and its unique activities, as well as fostering communication and collaboration between its members, and their active contribution to development and construction in our Arab countries.
- Acknowledgment of Engineer Hassan Abdelaziz’s continued efforts and ongoing support for the Union, with his deep and diverse expertise.
- Acknowledgment of Engineer Zakaria Abdel Rahman’s support for the Arab Contractors Union through joint work and contribution to the construction sector.
- Acknowledgment of Engineer Mohamed Sami Saad’s efforts in supporting and hosting the Arab Contractors Union’s headquarters in Egypt.
- Acknowledgment of Engineer Hamdy Shahat’s distinguished efforts in managing the Union’s activities and his excellent organization of this meeting, which was attended by the largest number of representatives from Arab contractors’ organizations, thanks to the support and coordination of the Union President in uniting and following up on the event.
